Leaving the comfort of home for your university studies is tough. As exciting as Studying Abroad can be, it isn’t easy to know where to begin to prepare. If you need some help getting ready to study abroad, here are a few tips.
The first and most important thing is to get your paperwork in order. This means applying for and securing your passport and/or visa well before your departure date. The second most important thing you can do is research. Learn about the culture and customs of wherever you’re going to be studying. You don’t want to accidentally offend anyone! Learning some key phrases from the area you’re visiting doesn’t hurt, either.
The third step is to learn about the climate and do some shopping. Having weather-appropriate clothing will be key to your comfort in an unfamiliar place. If you’re going somewhere that’s typically cooler, buy sweaters and some heavier jackets. For warmer climates, pack shorts and t-shirts, as well as some nicer dressy clothes. The fourth step is to sort out your communication. Are you going to use a SIM card from your host country? Are you going to purchase an international plan? You want to be able to contact loved ones, so this is important.
Finally, make sure you pack smart and pack light. You don’t want to bring more than one or two suitcases and a carry on, and don’t fill your cases to the brim. You’re bound to get new stuff on your journey!
